Jan, if you are here, DO NOT read this post.
I think I can say with authority that Leo is a BIG FAN of his new digs. We have a smaller yard here than we did at the last house, but we again back up to a creek and therefore get a good amount of wildlife. I’ve seen skunks several times (oy vey, I wonder how long it will take Brady to get his ass sprayed??), a possum (it IS alabama), many deer, wild turkeys, squirrels…the list goes on. Last night Dave let the dogs out before bed, and suddenly he yells “Leo’s got something!” and he sprints/clomps down the steps in his bare feet after him. I came running, terrified that I was going to be asking all my dog friends how to get skunk smell off of a dog…I’m not sure what I was really going to DO about it, because I’m sure by that time Leo would have gotten it already, but instinct kicked in anyway. So, we get out there and the mighty hunter has caught himself a rodent of some sort. We’re not sure what (mouse, mole, vole, chipmunk?), because it was dark and wet out, but it squeaked in terror every time Leo grabbed it. Because you see, the mighty hunter doesn’t eat his prey. He plays with it until it’s dead and boring, and then abandons it. So he picks it up, tosses it around, lets it *think* it’s getting away, and then grabs it again.
I am actually quite impressed that he caught it. Dave said that he saw him in the yard, ears perked, listening…and then suddenly he took off running and snagged it like 20 feet away from where he had been. I guess those big old ears do work!

to defunk the skunk smell Mythbusters found that feminine hygenine products work best, specifically vinegar and water formula. Granted… this is WAY too much info for most of us but I give it a month and Jeri will be sending Dave to WalMart at o’ dark thirty and he’ll be buying the place out of it cause a four legger will have gotten sprayed!
And the great SuperFly got herself a squirrel once…

My parents wiener dog got sprayed, and it was late at night, no stores open, so they doused him with salsa. It was all they had in the house that was tomato based:) It worked, though.

Wait, I was pretty sure on the Mythbusters episod it was the H2O2, baking soda and dish soap that worked best?
I’ve actually used that recepie a few times and it DOES work. VERY well! My sister’s BCx has been sprayed 2x and she’s got that long, thick, double coat and this concotion worked great. (and that was before Mythbusters was a program, great show BTW

Ocean water works best of all. But your dog has to get sprayed on the beach. Yes that has happened but maybe it’s only an Orygun thing (or possibly Warshington).
