I can’t tell you how glad I am that Lizzie is going to be ok… I was SO worried And then, of course, my next thought was “great – just as Piper has REALLY started getting into shredding toys – will she follow after her mom in THIS way too?” *sigh*

Snuggles to Lizzie, and I hope she quits eating crap she shouldnt! LOL

Alice never threw up, or attempted to, and didn’t go off her feed. But it was still Wednesday night to Friday morning before I figured out that she had a real problem the first time. Wednesday night she seemed in distress and I spent some time up with her in the middle of the night (it’s common for me to be awake then anyway). I googled the symptoms of bloat and they didn’t fit.

I think that she must have had a partial blockage to start with as well, which then impacted and solidified. I’m hoping that if I can notice the early symptoms I can forestall it as I was able to last month.

I do think I caught it pretty early, OR it took a while in this case for it to develop into a “problem”…may have been a partial blockage for a day or two and only became serious maybe last night when she started throwing up more often. The vet said he was glad we decided to open her up, because while it wasn’t a huge issue at this point it WOULD have been by Monday. She wasn’t really “in distress” yet, thank goodness, and there was no damage to her intestines.

I’m getting very paranoid.

I’m going to be a lot more proactive and catch it early in the future, I hope. And I have now learned that dogs *can* take human laxatives. Milk also acts as a natural laxative for dogs.
