Balance

I actually did the lines on these photos the other day but forgot to post them. Carolyn reminded me!

Leo is a great example of a dog with overall less ideal angulation, but who is balanced. That (along with personality) is why he could move like a freight train. I had to run to keep up with Leo, because as many times as I tried to teach him to move slower, that just wasn’t his thing. LOL He has flying drive and likes to go as fast as his little legs can take him.

Brady fits into this camp also, by the way. He’s straighter in both front and rear, but very balanced and has good movement and wonderful stamina. He truly is a dog that could work all day long.

Here is Leo at I think a little over a year old:

Moving on…

Following Carolyn’s lead. I tried to draw the lines, hopefully I did it correctly. They are at least fairly close, I think. Her upper arm is shorter to me in real life than it looks with the lines. But you can clearly see her lack of layback in the shoulder. However, she has good placement of the shoulder, which is what keeps her from looking like one of those dogs with shoulders coming straight down from their head. :) I have an example that I’m thinking of, that I’ve seen on a website, but since it’s not my dog I won’t post it LOL.

If I have time later I’ll post my other dogs. :)

Westminster

For those who don’t know, be sure to look for my friend Janet’s pretty red girl Scout at Westminster! She and Laura Prosser are in New York now to watch the big show, pay too much for food, and much more. Hope they have a great time!

Another day at the dog show

Yes, I really need two separate blogs…a mommy blog and a dog mommy blog. :P Although on this particular weekend they are intermixed, because Jack went with me to the dog show yesterday (his first!) and Charlie went with me today. After I was done showing today, Charlie demanded that it was “HER turn to walk Lizzie around and have ME clap”. She settled for getting to walk Lizzie out the door to the car, which always gets lots of comments because hello, cute 3 year old walking her doggie. Lizzie is SUCH a good girl, she never pulls on the leash and Charlie is good about keeping a grip on it (and we put it over her wrist just to be a little more careful). Not that Lizzie would go anywhere if the leash fell anyway. :P

Anyway, it was a great weekend for us as Lizzie won on Friday and today both, for 5 more points. That brings her up to 10 points total and both majors. Now I just have to figure out where our next show will be, and whether I can get her finished before the Nationals to put her in the Megan…

Pictures forthcoming.

A dog-showing we will go…

Life isn’t…normal exactly, but we’re getting there.

No, we still don’t own the house. In fact, since putting the sod, fence, and our shower door (the three biggies that were left to do when we psuedo-closed on the house), we haven’t heard hide nor hair from our builder asking where his money is. *shrug* I figure that they’ll call us as soon as possible once it’s all “ok”. LOL But, we’re getting settled in. I no longer feel like there are boxes EVERYwhere I look…just almost everywhere. The dogs are all here, together again at last, and are having a great time breaking in the new house. Lizzie is in standing heat which has made pack-reacclimation a little bit interesting, because she’s a royal bizzatch (especially to Leo) when she’s hormonal.

And this weekend I get a chance for my little “mommy getaway” by returning to dog showing again. I went to a small show a few weeks ago, but was told that Lizzie was, ahem, pudgy. *blush* So I’ve been dropping her weight down for our local shows here this weekend. There are majors all three days we’re entered, so fingers crossed that she can pick up her second major.

Last day

Today…better but still a little frustrating. Lizzie was Best of Opposite in Sweeps, and then RWB. Again. So yes, it’s frustrating for her to have reserves to so many 5-point majors, but I’m at least gratified that she’s recognized for something. She’s also totally naked and was not showing that well today, so I shouldn’t complain too much. :P

Hope everyone else is having a good show weekend. We head home early tomorrow morning, didn’t enter 4 days in a row and after seeing how pooped Lizzie was today, I’m very glad. It is a HUGE show down here and she’s just D-O-N-E. And me too!

edit to add: Yesterday sucked. All-round judge Kilcullen and he did some very odd things. Found the same WB and BOB, but class placements were all over the place and inconsistent. Lizzie was 3rd of 4.

Today

Some of you know, but Lizzie was RWB today at the Bluebonnet specialty in an entry of 20 bitches. The WB/BOW was Telltails Show Girl, another TM puppy girl who is the spitting image of the ones that Denise Waiting has. :o ) Nice girl.

Sweepstakes was a bit disappointing, with Lizzie getting dumped to 4th out of 5 in her class. I’m not quite sure what happened there, as at first it seemed as though the judge was deciding between Lizzie and the TM puppy girl (who was Best in Sweeps)…and then next I knew we were 4th. *shrug*

To Houston We Will Go…

Lizzie and I leave at o’dark thirty tomorrow morning for the long drive to Houston with our friend Leslie for the Bluebonnet Specialty. Of course, as soon as I sent in my entry, Lizzie started blowing coat, and she’s currently pretty darned nekkid. In her case at least, she has plenty of body underneath the coat so I’m just trying to strip out as much of the scraggly undercoat as I can so she doesn’t look like a ragamuffin.

Wish us luck! Entries are right around 50 Cardis, and 16 in puppy sweeps on Thurs and Sat. I’m planning to take my laptop, so hopefully I’ll be able to check in at the hotel each afternoon/evening.

ARGHHHH

I really wanted them to be perfect. :-( Someday I will learn how long in body she is, and therefore how far I need to stretch her legs.

And I'm back!

Whew! I’m pooped. I got in a little while ago and hope to see everyone else checking in over the next couple of days too. :o ) Miss Lizzie is on her trek back across country, although after seeing how Jeff lets her sleep on the bed I’m thinking she may not WANT to come back to my house.

I’ll post some more later including Lizzie’s best of breed picture from a couple of weeks ago, but for now I feel like going and laying in bed for a couple of days. :D Not sure how much news has gotten around, but Lizzie was 3rd in her 9-12 sweeps class and 1st in the regular class. Also, her sire Alex won 2nd in Stud Dog with her as one of his two kids. So overall, I’m thinking that it was worth the trip! I didn’t take my camera on the trip with me but hopefully there will be many pictures to go around.
